Welcome to Yorkshire

Yorkshire Elementary School has been a cornerstone of the community for more than a century. The original Yorkshire two-room schoolhouse, part of the Springettsbury Independent School District, opened on September 8, 1925, with a single teacher serving local students. As the surrounding community grew, additions were constructed and opened in 1952 to meet increasing enrollment needs.

With the formation of the York Suburban School System in 1953 (now the York Suburban School District), Yorkshire continued to evolve, serving elementary students for many decades. In 2010, a new, modern school building opened at the opposite end of the property, creating the learning environment families know today. The current facility, located at 295 Mills Street in the Yorkshire neighborhood on the east end of York, was thoughtfully designed to support the needs of young learners.

Today, Yorkshire Elementary School serves approximately 310 students in kindergarten through second grade, providing a nurturing foundation for each child’s academic and social growth.

Academic Excellence

More than 55 professional staff members deliver a comprehensive and engaging educational program focused on early learning and student success. With an average student-teacher ratio of approximately 18:1, students benefit from individualized attention and strong relationships that support confidence, curiosity, and a love of learning.

School Day & Learning Experience

The student day begins at 9:00 a.m. (doors open at 8:50 a.m.) and ends at 3:45 p.m. A typical student day includes the core subjects of English Language Arts (ELA), mathematics, science, social studies, and social-emotional learning. Related arts classes include: art, music, applied engineering and technology, library, physical education, and wellness.

Supporting the Whole Child

Yorkshire Elementary is committed to supporting students academically, socially, and emotionally during these important early years. The school implements a Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework, which emphasizes teaching and celebrating positive behaviors while creating a predictable, safe, and supportive environment for young learners.

Teachers collaborate regularly with grade-level teams to discuss curriculum implementation, instructional strategies, and student supports. This collaborative approach ensures consistent expectations, strong instructional practices, and a smooth transition for students as they prepare for the intermediate level.

Parent Teacher Organization (PTO)

An active Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) enhances the school experience by organizing events and opportunities that bring families together. Through popular traditions such as the Dance-a-Thon and Lego Bingo, the PTO supports programs and activities that strengthen connections among students, families, and staff and enrich the school community.
